Australian Wine: A World of Difference

Welcome to a wine encounter Down Under. It will be a journey of discovery like no other! The 29th Vancouver Playhouse International Wine Festival is your opportunity to conquer the tyranny of distance and experience first-hand the excitement of the thriving Australian wine culture, without leaving the shores of Canada.

With wines that have "wowed" the world over the last decade and more, Australia will showcase the diversity and quality of its wines - from popular "Brand Champions" to unique "Regional Heroes"; from "Generation Next Innovations" to "Landmark Australian Icons." There are over 2000 wineries now in production Down Under and the contrasts are Australia: from cool climate to warm, from bold to subtle, the range of styles is constantly surprising.

Innovative, restless and unrestrained, Australian winemakers have relentlessly pushed the boundaries of excellence in winemaking. Aussies are renowned not for following tradition, but rather for creating their own. Their free-spirited nature is reflected in the wines they make: generous, varied and full of flavour. A little confidence has gone a long way to reaching our customers by producing wines that are consistent, approachable and constantly improving. "Anything is possible" is the Aussie mantra.

With over 60 recognised wine regions, Australia now has wineries on the edges of red deserts, clinging to the sides of snow-capped mountains, and overlooking surf beaches; the diversity of Australian wine reflects a true sense of place and the personalities of those who nurture them. Come experience wines from Margaret River, the Yarra Valley, Barossa, Clare Valley, and the Hunter Valley amongst others.

Shiraz and Chardonnay? But of course! Some of our very best examples will be there, in all their styles. In addition to these notorious varietals, the diverse assortment of wines to choose from includes world class Semillons, cool-climate Sauvignon Blancs, top Cabernet bottlings rivalling those from France and California, sublime Pinot Noirs from our cool regions, and our unique and utterly delicious Rieslings. Fifty-four Australian wineries and renowned winery principals will be exhibitors, including the inimitable Wolf Blass himself.

Wine Australia - Canada and the Australian Consulate General invite you to experience the wonders of Australia between March 26 and April 1. If you think you already know Australian wine, think again ...
