The Bacchanalia Gala Dinner + Auction is the crown jewel of the Playhouse Winefest and one of the most spectacular events in the city.
A must for the serious wine collector, the evening provides an unparalleled opportunity to enhance your wine cellar through silent and live auctions of rare, valuable and unusual wines donated by some of the world’s top winemakers and private collectors. The wine auction includes more than 50 large-format bottles, topped by a one-off 12-litre bottle of Tantra 2005 from Leopard Frog Vineyards created especially for the Bacchanalia Gala.
Also up for bid are extraordinary travel, wine and culinary experiences – wine tours of Australia and New Zealand, cooking school in Europe, private in-home dinners prepared by some of Vancouver’s top chefs and many more. Auction lots will be published a week prior to the event online.
Qantas Airways, Goway Travel and Wine Australia have teamed up to provide a raffle prize of a $10,000 Down Under wine tour for two. Airfare, wine tours and all ground transfers are included. Tickets cost just $100 and only 200 tickets are available.
The gala dinner, which begins with a Champagne reception featuring two kinds of premium bubbly, is a consummate exercise in wine and food pairing. The five-course gourmet dinner, especially created by Robert LeCrom, executive chef at The Fairmont Hotel Vancouver, features 10 wines – two with each course.
Bacchanalia Gala Dinner + Auction is chaired by Nancy Burke. It is hosted by two of Canada’s most celebrated radio hosts, Jurgen Gothe and Bill Richardson. The auctioneer is Barry Scott, director and president of Maynards Industries.
Proceeds of Bacchanalia Gala go to the Playhouse Theatre Company, Western Canada’s largest theatre company dedicated exclusively to producing works of the contemporary repertoire. Since 1979, the festival has raised $5.2 million for the Playhouse, helping it mount 197 theatrical productions and create extensive educational and community outreach programs. A tax receipt is issued for a portion of each ticket purchased.
Also sponsored by: Canaccord Capital Corporation, Deloitte & Touche LLP, Macquarie, San Pellegrino, Union Securities Ltd., Vancouver Wine Vault Inc.
Raffle Sponsors: This year’s trip for a Down Under wine tour experience for two is sponsored by Wine Australia, Qantas Airways and Goway Travel
